The Whale Center of New England (WCNE), formerly the Cetacean Research Unit, was founded in 1980 to study the whales frequenting waters off the Massachusetts coast, especially Stellwagen Bank and Jeffreys Ledge. They conduct field research from their research vessel Silver II, and from public whale watch boats.The Whale Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
